Short answer: Looking at a “to china summer school” for 2027? SummerSchoolUK’s From Steppe to Silk Road is a 14-day, all-English camp from Beijing to the Ordos grasslands to Xi’an, running 12–25 July 2027 at £2,880 (international flights excluded). Here’s what it covers, who it suits, and how to book.
“To china summer school” isn’t a place — it’s a category: summer study programmes hosted in China for international students, covering language, culture, STEM or history — with local Chinese students joining alongside. It’s the reverse of a Chinese student going abroad. Rather than send you to a directory, we run one ourselves — From Steppe to Silk Road, a British-style summer camp in China for students who want the UK teaching standard and something more: British teachers and courses, Chinese culture and landscape, and international friends.
It suits children who are happy in an all-English environment with Chinese peers — international and local students eat, learn and play together.
Three cities, 14 days / 13 nights, and only 40 places (1:5 staff-to-student, a lead teacher per group).
| Leg | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Start & finish | Beijing | Forbidden City, the Great Wall, hutong culture walk; airport transfers |
| The grasslands | Ordos | Cultural classes in English, Mongolian heritage workshop, Genghis Khan Mausoleum, horse riding, full-day grassland excursion |
| Silk Road finale | Xi’an | Terracotta Warriors, Ancient City Wall, Xi’an Museum, Grand Tang Dynasty night walk |
Why Ordos? On a cool ~21°C summer day the wind sweeps the open grassland, cattle and sheep dot the land, and Mongolian culture runs deep. It’s where students escape the heat, make friends from around the world, and tell their stories in English.
£2,880 for the full 14 days.

Free transfers run for flights arriving 12 July and departing 25 July between 9:00 and 18:00. Add flights and international insurance to the £2,880 for your true total. Other Chinese university summer programmes vary widely in price and what they bundle — this is one confirmed option, priced clearly.
China offers short-stay visa-free entry to citizens of many countries, but the policy has an end date and varies by nationality — the rules in force in July 2027 are those in China’s official announcements. After your booking is confirmed, we tell you whether your child needs a visa, based on nationality. If one is needed, we issue an invitation letter within 7 working days and guide you through a Chinese visa application centre. We recommend a passport valid for at least six months. Start early: allow 4–8 weeks.
The whole programme runs in English, led by British teachers, with Chinese students joining from across China — so students build English confidence while stepping into living Chinese culture through everyday life, not a sightseeing rush. Cultural classes are taught in English most days.
| Lead time | What to do |
|---|---|
| As soon as possible | Register interest — only 40 places, and they go early |
| 3–6 months before | Confirm the booking; we advise on visa need by nationality |
| If a visa applies | Invitation letter within 7 working days; then 4–8 weeks for the visa |
| Around the dates | Book flights into the 9:00–18:00 transfer window for 12 / 25 July |
Every group has a lead teacher who stays with the students. If a child is unwell or has an accident, the lead teacher goes to them immediately, contacts the hospital and arranges treatment, works with the insurer under the in-China accident insurance, and keeps parents informed throughout.
